I bought a new iMac this past weekend and so far it is nothing short of amazing. I was originally planning on getting a Mac Book Pro, but recently decided to get an iMac instead because almost all the work I do on it will be in the confines of my basement. I waited until the 27″ model was released with the new Intel chip and then ran to the Apple store in Roseville. I have all my usual software installed already and am happily programming away!
The primary reason I wanted to get a new Mac is so that I can start developing iPhone applications. I have all sorts of ideas for fun apps to build, but will primarily be working on one for Gafto to start. I think it is going to take me awhile to get used to Objective-C (the language used on iPhone and Mac) since it is quite different from the languages I am used to, but this is the beauty of programming. Once you know the theory of how object-oriented programming works and the fundamental concepts behind it, you can apply these concepts to a new language and be programming before too long!
Specs of my iMac:
- 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
- 27″ display
- 8GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
